COOPER'S KYLIE CONFESSION
ALICE COOPER
Rocker ALICE COOPER has shattered his wild image - by boasting he's a huge fan of pop beauty KYLIE MINOGUE.
The SCHOOL'S OUT star insists that despite his horror make-up, pet snakes and bizarre stage acts, he is a normal man who enjoys the Australian singer's family-friendly music.
He says, "If a Kylie song comes on with a catchy beat, I'll sit and rock my head to it like anyone else. I think she's great."

The Review: She wastes nothing
Rachel Devine
Kylie Minogue, SECC Glasgow, Tuesday
First it was gold hot pants, now it’s a 16in corset. It seems Kylie Minogue’s career is destined to be timelined by her sartorial exploits, while women everywhere tear out their hair at the comparatively monstrous proportions of their own bodies.
The corset (a spokesman for the singer has since denied the waist is anywhere near 16in) is admittedly a slip of a thing, but Kylie, even at 37, is a slip of a girl and whichever items of clothing she can or cannot fit her well-toned figure into is, quite frankly, irrelevant.
Or at least it should be. But the corset furore is the latest in a long line of clever publicity stunts that lend continuity to one of the most erratic careers in pop.
These days there is a quiet acceptance that this Australian beauty is almost beyond reproach. After all, many of us have grown up with her.
She was Neighbours’ Charlene, the archetypal girl next door. She was the first and the most successful in a long line of soap-actors-turned-popstars, and although the songs were dreadful and the outfits worse, we applauded her initiative.
The most interesting part of her career came about when she left the pop factory of Stock, Aitken and Waterman to take up with some unsavoury rock musicians for a series of albums on the Deconstruction label.
It would be easy to forget how rigorously berated she was for this detour from the pop mainstream, despite the fact it yielded some of her best material. And, until recently, there have been precious few great hits in such a long career.
But this is a greatest hits tour, which in Kylie’s case means a good dose of dross with the diva. But 15 years on, many of her songs from the early days have dated surprisingly well (even the dreadful Hand on Your Heart and Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi) or at least benefited from an overhaul. Her entrance onto the SECC stage is so grand that the first three songs — Better the Devil You Know, In Your Eyes and Giving You Up — bleed into one another, while the audience stands agog in the face of a sea of plumage and half-naked bodies.
The feathers are just as impressive as the corset, but then this is a show aimed at her considerable gay fan base. The female dancers play second fiddle to a troupe of glistening male limbs which circle Kylie like a flock of protective birds, seldom allowing her to interact with the audience. They introduce a medley of her more embarrassing 1980s hits dressed in tight Lycra leotards cut low to expose the nipples.
The fun continues when the stage is transformed into a men’s locker room complete with showers and more semi-nude men, this time wearing jock straps. Kylie cuts an odd figure astride a gymnastics horse belting out her very best disco numbers in her very best sexy but unthreatening manner.
Just as the message is beginning to hit home, Kylie delivers it herself, a marvellously syrupy version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, perched on a flying crescent moon. The lack of subtlety is almost charming. Next time she might try having “gay icon” tattooed to her forehead.
Put the circus aside and this is entertaining stuff, especially at a time when pop has few redeeming qualities. Can’t Get You Out of My Head and I Believe In You are marvellously crafted pop songs while some of the older tunes, such as the always haunting Confide in Me, are delivered with renewed vigour.
It’s only after a second encore that Kylie takes a moment to exchange pleasantries with the audience in a bizarre transatlantic accent. She asks us to sing Jason Donovan’s part of Especially For You and we gratefully comply. Old Kylie or new, we love her just the same.

Kylie's pearl of wisdom
Kylie Minogue is leaving audiences on her current tour gasping at her fabulous new showgirl look.
Understandably, Kylie may be gasping a bit herself.
The outfit, we are told, involves a corset which clinches her waist in - to an eye-watering 16 inches.
The story of Kylie and her corset has been much discussed this week. Can a 16in waist ever be good for a girl? Sensing that being seen to promote a 16in waist might not be good for a girl's image, Kylie's camp has since intervened to say that actually the corset isn't THAT tight. Her waist, in the tightly laced garment, is a whole 18in. Breathe easy, Miss Minogue.
The bit I find really fascinating about the corset story though, is the information about the designer. Apparently he's a gentleman called Mr Pearl. Mr Pearl is said to wear one of his own corsets which squeezes his manly middle into a delicate 18 inches.
In fact, Mr Pearl is said to have worn the garment so long that he now has a delightful hourglass figure.
Further information - he only ever takes it off to bathe. And he even wears his corset in bed. Presumably he's worried that during the night his abdomen might regroup.
And that, once again, he'd wake up to waist.

Kylie Minogue was met by a roar of applause when she emerged onto the stage in a jewel-encrusted gown by John Galliano and Mr.Pearl corset.
Kylie Minogue kicked off the glamorous world tour aptly named Showgirl with a tribute to Lido dancers. And John Galliano wasn't the only big name to lend his talent to the show. Karl Lagerfeld and Julien McDonald also created costumes for The Ultimate Showgirl.
Perhaps the most spectacular contribution was the huge feathered head-dress supplied by the Lido cabaret in Paris. However, the most eagerly anticipated garment was the designer corset, made by the famous Mr. Pearl from London, which reduced Kylie's waist to an eye-popping 16 inches.
The show represents Kylie's finest moments in music, performance and style and is homage to the showgirl.
Like Kylie's 2002 Fever tour, Showgirl pushes the technological boundaries, using innovative technology in video, lighting and sound. With its $2-million Art Deco stage, the show is so huge that it needs well over 100 people to get it on the road. The stage is believed to be the biggest ever built for an arena tour and features five hydraulic lifts within its construction.
The Showgirl Tour will be traveling across Britain and Europe before heading to Australia and the Far East before ending with a headline appearance at the Glastonbury Festival on June 26.
The tour, the biggest and most ambitious of Kylie's career, is a celebration of her 17 years at the top of the charts, according to Kylie Minogue.
"This is my way of saying thank you and of sharing some of the most important moments of my journey so far," she said. "It's been so much fun putting the show together. It has taken just under a year to design and build, but it has been a lifetime in the making," said Kylie Minogue in a media release.

Corset's not true

It qualifies as possibly the daftest story of the year so far but, as we all know, one should never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
And let's face it, nobody was hurt. But at what point did Fleet Street hacks lose their collective marbles and fail to question reports that Kylie Minogue had a waist the size of a swollen ankle?
There will be a touch of schadenfreude among women when they realise that Kylie's waist is not, we repeat not, 16 inches - even with the help of a pearl-encrusted John Galliano corset.
And how do we at MediaGuardian know this? Simple. Because her PRs told us so. In fact reporting of her saucer-size waist has been so widespread in the last six days, that the singer her self has felt obliged to release a statement denying that even the tightest of corsets couldn't do that to her waist.
To see just how it became received wisdom, we have to go back to the Daily Star last Thursday. Its report on her impressive measurements was then picked up many of the other nationals, including the Daily Mail, News of the World, Sunday Mirror and the Guardian.
It didn't matter that Murray Chalmers, Director of PR at Parlophone, has also denied the 16-inch claim, saying that the original statement he gave to the Daily Star about the "tiny" corset that Kylie would be wearing on her current tour did not give specific measurements. But let's face it. He's a PR for a showbusiness star and his protests weren't too heartfelt. Free publicity, for an ageing pop star, has got to be worth its weight in gold.
"Tightly Minogue, Design's corset will squeeze star's waist to just 16 inches," revealed the Star in its "exclusive" featuring he corset's creator, a man who is apparently huge in the corset industry - for shrinking women's waists - and goes only by the name Mr Pearl.
The Mail thought it was such a good story, it followed it up on Friday with "Sweet Sixteen: That's the number of inches in Kylie's waist with the help of a very tight corset."
And for good measure, it used her tiny waistline to twist the knife into another popstar - Posh Spice has also been given the Mr Pearl treatment, in the form of an 18-inch corset that she wore at her wedding. Got that? 18 inches. Very Daily Mail.
But there was more to come. The News of the World piled in on Sunday, as did the Sunday Mirror. "What a corr-set!" said the Screws, while the Mirror buried the detail of her 16-inch waist deep into its story as if it were, well, fact.
But shouldn't alarm bells have been raised by Monday, when the Daily Mail graphics department illustrated as MediaGuardian.co.uk does today, what the "actual size" of Kylie's tiny waist was on page 9?
In a just-in-case-you-missed-it story by the Mail yesterday, the text of the article is delivered within a tape measure showing that you can only just comfortably sit your coffee mug into the circumference of corseted Kylie.
Or a swollen ankle, as Vanessa Feltz says in her Daily Express column today.
Food for thought is provided by a small piece about Nigella Lawson, thrown into the bottom of the Mail analysis about how she feels liberated by her decision not to be thin. "But you know what it is?" says Nigella. "Long ago I decided that I didn't want to be very thin."
Thank goodness for that. But it's not quite over. The Guardian even got in on the act with a feature today asking if it was possible to achieve said measurement with the aid of a good tight corset.
So the last word in this flight of fantasy must go to Kylie herself:
"A 16-inch waist, wow! Even I would be amazed by that.Of course that is an exaggeration, but a showgirl should never reveal her actual measurements."
As stunts go, it was magnificent - everyone was a winner. The PRs have got publicity for her tour, the newspapers were able to run sexy pictures of one of the nation's favourite pop divas in a revealing outfit and an even better bonus - the story sprogged spin-offs keeping us all entertained for nearly a week .

Kylie Minogue: "Giving You Up"
genre: pop
Shame to say most of the stuff on this Ultimate Kylie comp thing hasn't held up nearly as well the cake on her face or my glossy mom crush (some like em hot, some like em cold, I like em fifteen years older ok?). The two new singles on the comp are aces though-- "I Believe In You" ya heard last year, and this one "Giving You Up" has a few weeks before the five or six people who still care about Kylie go total batshit (ScottPl and Dleone excluded). The song's a return to big sound Fever electro, but with subtler production: all the hacksaw synth is pushed back and sanded off, so Kylie's head voice doesn't have to go through eight additional filters to compete with the bristle. Straight fours and minimal syncopation make "Giving You Up" way simpler dancefloor fodder than any of Body Language's offerings, but that's probably better for most of us.
Oh, and this song's totally about me. Just when I'm about to bail on Kylie, she's all, "I can't start giving you up/ I'm lost without you". That's not telepathy but I'm willing to play along, at least until this verse: "She finds a man and she makes it her passion/ I'm happy trying all the time with a boy like you." See you in the supermarket. [Nick Sylvester]

The Ford Streetka, launched less than two years ago and promoted by pocket princess of pop Kylie Minogue, is to cease production this summer.

The Italian company will now start on the production version of the Focus Vignale concept.
Supplies of the Streetka are nevertheless expected to last into 2006."

Kylie's secret 'French' escape
Exclusive by CHRIS TINKLER
06mar05
POP superstar Kylie Minogue has bought a hideaway retreat on isolated French Island, near Melbourne.
The singer, who dates French actor Oliver Martinez, bought the secluded 20-hectare block in the middle of the island for an estimated $400,000.
In true celebrity style, the diminutive diva hired Allan "Koala Dundee" Chandler, the island's tour operator and bushman, to look after the property.
The home, once re-developed, is expected to be Kylie and sister Dannii's retreat.
The island is 65km southeast of Melbourne and 10km from Hastings, but cars can access it on demand only by a barge – at $100 a trip.
While it ranks as Victoria's largest island – twice the size of Phillip Island – 72per cent is national park.
There is no power, no sewers and no sealed roads, but plenty of mosquitoes in spring.
French Island is famous for its former prison and was once pinpointed for a nuclear power station.
Its estimated 3000-strong koala population heavily outnumbers its 90 residents.
Tourists can reach it only via a ferry from Stony Point, south of Hastings and Cowes on Phillip Island.
It has three B&B-style hotels, a general store and an eco farm – the converted old prison – where backpackers stay and work.
But the isolated haven was just what the Minogues were looking for, according to estate agent Hendrik Boer, who sold the property to Kylie's father, Ron.
"It is just a nice place to get away from the crowds and paparazzi," Mr Boer said. "The family can come and relax here and they know they will not be bothered. There are some gorgeous beachfront properties on the island, but they did not even want to look at them, probably because they didn't want an armada of boats floating outside."
Kylie took a tour of the island and her new home with Mr Chandler when in Melbourne at Christmas.
"I'd heard of her, but I didn't recognise her," Mr Chandler, who has lived on the island for 37 years, said.
"I just thought she was another tourist. She was a typical girl. No airs or graces."
Dannii, at the Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park with former boyfriend driver Jacques Villeneuve, spent last weekend on the island.
Mr Boer, of Peninsula Coast Real Estate, said the property was bought in the family company name KDB Holdings – the initials of Kylie, Dannii and brother Brendan.
