The Ford Streetka, launched less than two years ago and promoted by pocket princess of pop Kylie Minogue, is to cease production this summer.

A spokesperson for Ford said that the plan was always for a short run because the car's coachbuilder, Pininfarina, deals in small-volume lines and it has already produced 37,000.

The Italian company will now start on the production version of the Focus Vignale concept.

Supplies of the Streetka are nevertheless expected to last into 2006."
