Kylie Minogue's pay is 1.2 million pounds a year!

London | March 23, 2004 3:29:53 PM IST

Pop star Kylie Minogue is paid 1.2 million pounds a year, according to her company's accounts.
According to a report in The Mirror, Kylie's dad Ron, who runs Darenote Ltd with Kylie's mum Carole, said that the business had a very successful year in 2001 as the firm earned 2.8 million pounds for the year to March 2002.

Darenote, which owns the singer's 1 million pounds London home, paid nearly 160,000 pounds in pension and National Insurance sums, 48,000 pounds in expenses and a 51,000 pounds tax bill. It also paid off 200,000 pounds in loans and gave 3,500 pounds to charity.

The report says that the bumper earnings came less than four years after the pop sensation's career was in the doldrums and the firm lost 43,000 pounds.

Then Kylie's single 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' sold four million worldwide and saved the company from complete financial mess.

Since then two hectic years followed but Kylie said last month that she enjoys the fast and hectic pace of her life. "I enjoy hard work but if I had another two years like the previous two, I might start not to like it so much," the report quoted Kylie as saying. (ANI)

Minogue keeps fans coming into her world

(CNN) -- Kylie Minogue has long been Australia's pop queen, selling millions
of albums around the world.

Minogue's ninth album, "Body Language," recorded in England, Ireland and
Spain, was released in November, and its first single, "Slow," debuted at
No. 1 in Australia and the United Kingdom.

"I think Australians are down to earth," Minogue told The Music Room's
Amanda Palmer. "We have a good work ethic, and that can only be helpful in
this industry."

Her strong Aussie work ethic has helped Minogue sell almost 40 million
albums in a 17-year career that was crowned this year with a Grammy for best
dance recording for "Come Into My World."

Minogue said she could never have guessed where her early talent show
performances on TV would lead her.

"I saw some old footage recently and -- once I got over the initial shock of
the outfit -- I'm looking at myself at 18 years of age and just thinking,
'If I could tell that young girl what she's going to experience, not just in
her career but in life ...'

"I mean, I was so bright-eyed and open to all kinds of opportunity. It was
heart-warming to see it. I felt quite proud that gosh, yeah I've done OK."

Leading the way

Minogue said her idol, Olivia Newton-John, helped to pave the way for her.

"I was Olivia Newton-John in my lounge room for sure. I guess at the time,
without even knowing it, she was a massive, massive influence," Minogue
said. "And do you know, she's still amazing. She came to see my show in
Sydney, and I was a bit nervous thinking, 'Oh, Olivia Newton-John's here!' "

Minogue in turn has helped lead the way for another group of Australian
singers.

Like Minogue, newcomer Delta Goodrem got her start on the Aussie TV soap
opera "Neighbours," a show that also launched Natalie Imbruglia and Holly
Valance.

Goodrem, 19, seems to be heir apparent to Minogue's pop crown, with a
million-selling debut album and seven Australian Music Awards.

Minogue said Goodrem's "fantastic songs" and "personable character" were
partly responsible for her success.

"To see someone coming through their own way, I think she's a great role
model, and her demographics are incredible," Minogue said. "She certainly
crosses the border."

At 35, with 40 hit singles to her name, Minogue has demographics that are
just as impressive.

"I find myself on a Saturday morning kids show -- which are extremely
important, you have to do them -- and I think to myself, 'My God, I've
actually done this show 80 times.'

"Yeah, I'm proud to be my age and do what I do, and to be honest I get a lot
more enjoyment out of it now than I used to anyway."

Minogue added, "The more aware I am, the more I understand the challenge,
which before I was probably oblivious to it and you just kind of skip on and
do it.

"So it becomes more difficult in some ways but if you know how to get by and
try to do the best job that you can, ultimately the rewards are better."

CNN's Neil Curry and Ayesha Lawrence contributed to this report.

Anything Kylie does
... Dannii does too

KYLIE: The pop princess first started kissing her frog, Olivier Martinez, in 2003 and is said to be madly in love with him. DANNII: Six months ago, her sister started seeing her own Frenchman, Jeremy Garamond.

ONE is a tiny Aussie pop singer with a hunky French boyfriend. The other is . . . Kylie Minogue.

Ever since Kylie bagged a lead role on Neighbours, little sister Dannii has been running to catch up.

Kylie, 35, is madly in love with French boyfriend Olivier Martinez and, true to form, Dannii has found herself her very own Gallic lover.

Dannii, 32, was spotted strolling on London’s Kings Road with Olivier lookalike Jeremy Garamond this week.

It is a copycat approach Dannii has displayed time and again.

When Kylie left Oz to pursue her pop career in the UK, Dannii was not far behind.

When big sis strutted her stuff at the G.A.Y. club in London, Dannii followed suit.

And when Kylie went back to her dancefloor roots, Dannii was waiting in the wings with her own uptempo tune. ...

Kylie's fishy habits annoy boyfriend

By Peter Mitchell
March 24, 2004 The Age Online, Australia

Olivier Martinez has revealed girlfriend Kylie Minogue has a fishy habit he finds annoying. The French actor told a US television talkshow today that Minogue recites lines from last year's animated blockbuster film, Finding Nemo, and it gets him hot under the collar.

"She says 'Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming' all the time," Martinez said on NBC's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I don't know what it means exactly."

US comedienne turned talkshow host DeGeneres was the voice of one of Finding Nemo's stars, a blue fish called Dory.

"By the way, she's a big fan of you," Martinez told DeGeneres. "She is always doing Dory. It's a bit annoying after a while."

Martinez and Minogue rarely talk publicly about their relationship, but he had little choice on DeGeneres' show. As Martinez was introduced to the audience and walked on stage, Minogue's song Love at First Sight was played. DeGeneres also pulled out a photo of Minogue and Martinez together. When Martinez saw the photo he took it off DeGeneres and hid it from view.

"What's wrong with that?" DeGeneres asked. "Why did you do that?"

A sheepish Martinez replied: "Why, nothing, it's just that ..."

DeGeneres said: "She's not going to be happy that you did that."

That is when Martinez confessed Minogue was a big fan of the American comedienne and repeatedly recited lines from Finding Nemo.

"Kylie Minogue is walking around the house singing 'Just keep swimming'?" an impressed DeGeneres asked. "Wow. Thank you Kylie, that's very sweet. I'm a big fan of hers as well."

At the end of the interview DeGeneres presented a Dory doll to Martinez to give to Minogue. When the doll is squeezed it repeats some of Dory's lines from the movie.

"This is for Kylie," DeGeneres said. "She'll like that and you'll be annoyed with me now because it actually talks."

Martinez, who co-starred with Diane Lane and Richard Gere in 2002's steamy hit Unfaithful, will be seen next month in Australian cinemas when Taking Lives, a thriller co-starring Angelina Jolie, opens.

Kylie to Wed?

Kylie's sister Dannii has been reviled that Kylie is set to marry French actor Olivier Martinez following a a Leap Year proposal.

The News of the World report claims Dannii revealed the news to friends over drinks.

Dannii is reported as saying: "Kylie has told her friends in the US and our family at home but that's it. This is the happiest I've seen her - they really suit each other."

The couple, who have been together for just over a year, will marry in a hotspot like Barbados or Sydney.

In February Kylie (35), said she was thinking about having children. and has revealed that she plans to take things a little easier and take time out of promotional work to be with Martinez when he is filming.

Pop star Kylie Minogue has been blamed for a series of road crashes in the US.

A sexy poster for her new album Body Language has so far caused four pile-ups in Hollywood, according to the Daily Star.

Motorists have been unable to stop looking at Kylie's poster, even though the Aussie singer has vowed in recent times to tone down her sexy image.

One LA motorist Jamie Lukanic said: "Kylie looked so hot, I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

Fron LiMBO, kylie.co.uk

Tuesday March 9 2004

Recent tabloid stories have been awash with stories about Kylie's supposed claims that she is "bigger than Beyonce", and that she is above other artists like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and LiMBO felt it necessary to reiterate what has been posted on Kylie's official site, and emphasise the fact that these stories have been utter fabrications. Anyone who knows anything about Kylie will know that she has far more integrity than to voice anything about her musical peers other than praise, and history has proven that. Even when at times she has been under unwarranted verbal attack in the press by other (clearly bitter) public figures, she has never once in her 17 year career in the music business uttered a single word of retaliation beyond dismissing such comments - and even at times had the dignity to even try and justify why a certain person may have felt the need to criticize her!

We're quite bemused by the appearance of these articles, and can only assume that, riding on a wave of huge popularity (partly due to the very nature of Kylie's personality that completely contradicts these stories), Kylie is going through a bout of 'tall poppy syndrome', something she has of course suffered before. We'd urge anyone who reads any of these articles to voice their concerns to the author and/or publication in which it appears - and give 'em hell! Thankfully, some full retractions have already been published, but keep those eyes peeled, as these things tend to do the rounds before they die out.

Finally, we have been asked to run the following statement:

"Kylie would like to clarify that she has never criticised Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce - or, in fact, any of her contemporaries - and wishes each artist the very best. Her comments today are in response to media stories that she has criticised Britney Spears; and come the same day (8th) that The Daily Star printed an apology to her for an article they wrote in which they quoted Minogue as claiming that she was "bigger than Beyonce". The paper admitted today that they had got it wrong and that she had made no such claim; The Daily Express are printing a similar apology tomorrow.

Her spokesman said today:

"Kylie is a fan of these artists and would never put them down. She has never been in the habit of criticising fellow artists, as anyone who had ever met her would know. It's upsetting for her that people would make such false claims, hurting not only Kylie but other artists as well".

BBC NEWS | UK | Wales | AM calls for Kylie's help: "AM calls for Kylie's help

Kylie Minogue and Jonathan Ross
An Assembly Member is calling on Kylie Minogue to front a campaign to keep rural post offices open after she spoke about her family's business in Maesteg before the Minogues emigrated to Australia.

The pop icon said that she would have liked to have run her family's post office in the town if her family had not moved.

Blaenau Gwent AM Peter Law is fighting against the closure of seven post offices - and said Kylie would be a 'great example' to encourage people to use their facilities.

Her grandparents moved away from the valleys town in 1955, taking Kylie's mother, Carol, with them.

Kylie, 35, said: 'I was born in Melbourne but my roots are in Maesteg.

Speaking to TV personality Jonathan Ross on Radio 2 she said she would never forget her Welsh roots.

'My mother's from Wales, she's a Jones and I'm very proud.'
Ross was not convinced.

'You're making it up, you're trying to impress us,' he said. 'You really have Welsh relatives?'

But Kylie explained that although the name Minogue was Irish she definitely had Welsh connections.

'So were your family deported to Australia?' said Ross. 'Only joking!
'You're Welsh, you're Australian, what a woman!' he added.
Mr Law said that due to her background she would be an ideal figure to front his campaign.

He said: 'We would be delighted if she came to Blaenau Gwent as part of the campaign to keep our post offices open.

'She would be a great example to encourage people to use their facilities"

"We've got a big problem in Blaenau Gwent in that seven post offices, some of which have been there for many decades, are due to close.

"Kylie Minogue is ideal to take part in a campaign use of post offices as she is one of the biggest megastars in the world and is universally popular."

Kylie: I wish I'd got married

By Richard Simpson, Evening Standard
27 February 2004
Kylie: wants to emulate her parent's happy relationshipKylie Minogue has revealed that she regrets she did not marry in her early twenties.

The 35-year-old star, speaking frankly to Michael Parkinson, believes she has lost her chance to achieve the same sort of relationship that her parents enjoy.

Asked if she would like to marry her boyfriend, French actor Olivier Martinez, Kylie said: "For quite a number of years I've looked at my parents.

"They are still together, still in love, they miss each other madly, they hold hands and canoodle. They're the best example for me.

"It slightly pains me to think I will never have that, my chance has already gone. Because I'm 35. They did that when they were 22."

However, she said she would still like "something secure and wonderful". She added in the interview, shown on Saturday night: "When girlfriends are in serious relationships, married with children, I say 'that must be great', but until I experience that myself I won't know. I know it will be the best thing I've ever done."

Asked if she was a little old to be considering children, she said: "It's not too late, but obviously a woman my age can't help but think about those things. I'm asked about it all the time. And I never have a straight answer."

Kylie said having a French boyfriend made quite mundane things suddenly seem quite "exotic, amusing or frustrating", adding: "I couldn't possibly say that the French are better or worse, but he is wonderful."

Heartfelt comments . . . Kylie Minogue.

Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue has spoken for the first time about her fears that she might have left it too late to have children.

The 35-year-old singer, who is in a relationship with French actor Olivier Martinez, told British television interviewer Michael Parkinson she was concerned about her age and having children.

In an extraordinarily candid interview she confessed: "A woman of my age can't help but think about such a thing. We'll see if and when it happens."

The pop star's plight is similar to many women who have delayed child-bearing in order to have a successful career.

2000 fans screaming their heads off, people jammed to the front going crazy and cheering, the countdown beginning. And the show starting at about 1:45am, 15 mins after the countdown ended, it could only be Kylie at G.A.Y!!

MADE IN HEAVEN (I know!) This was the opening track. The dancers came on amid a sea of dry ice (that bloody choked us at the front!) 4 male dancers and 4 female dancers...all wearing street gear mixed with electro-chic. There was a huge video screen with a collage of 'the making of slow video' mixed with candid shots of her video shoot / photo shoot at St. Tropez in August...looking very French and sexy. The track was a new version...assuming Kylie sang it live....she was not there while the song was being sung / played. And then it suddenly burst into...

RED-BLOODED WOMAN She emerged in front of the video screen, sang the first line, and then paused. Pandemonium. People screaming. Then she carried on and did the routine for RBW that has been ssen on TV many times....as she walked down some stairs at the beginning of the song. She was wearing a black flowwing skirt which had 2 slits up the sides (gees maybe it is one slit up the front...can't remember!) She had loads of jewellry on it. She also had a black corset. Hair was up.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? GREAT! Dancers went crazy. So did Kylie. So did the audience. It was the On A Night Like This tour version. SHE ALSO mixed in the 'stick or twist' lines from CIM and the chrous of Too Far. Interesting!...great!

LOCOMOTION Fever tour version. Wearing a cream one piece short dress with slits through it.

CHOCOLATE Beautiful. 4 female dancers were dancing with her in a soft and gentle routine which encapsulated the crowd.

CAN'T GET YOU OUT OF MY HEAD This was fantastic as always. But Kylie seemed pissed off at one point! Someone in the crowd seemed to trigger it. She reached forward and I thought she was going to shake a hand or something. She pulled this camera off a guy and pointed it at him, and i thought she was going to take a picture. But then she looked sternly and said, "Just chill out a minute, OK?" And then she chucked the camera to the side to one of the security guys. She then said, "Don't worry you'll get it back." She then carried on singing the rest of the song....looking sternly at the guy a few times while singing! I have no idea whatsoever what the guy did, your guess is a good as mine. Mostly people at the front noticed this happen. (Note from LiMBO: This guy was apparently taking photos up Kylie's skirt, and pushing and shoving other crowd members around - it wasn't Kylie's first diva strop!!).Then at the end of the song Kylie again said that 'some people just need to chill out a bit', then was smiling and carried on with talking to the audience. I was a bit scared...never seen her with that look in her eyes! Bless her, and the guy for that matter, although I have no idea what it was about...I can only guess. Maybe it was a combination of things and she just snapped. Then after the song, as Slow started, she pointed to the guy so the security guard could give the camera back.

SLOW Went into to one of the dance remixes near the end, where it kind of loops. Kylie REALLY gave it her all...really shouting the lyrics. Male and female dancers all gyrating together....then in the remix the guys all jumped on each other gyrating...very nice!

ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS & LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT Crowd joined in. Beautiful.

BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW (IMPROMPTU ACAPELLA WITH THE CROWD) Kylie did this impromptu as a tribute to the crowd, and we all joined in.

Review by MoveOutOfMyWay

A pink countdown digital clock, like the one seen for her 2000 G-A-Y performance was used to relay the minutes til the Pop Princess graced the stage with her presence once more. While the minutes descended classsics like 'Never Too Late', 'In Your Eyes', and 'Your Disco Needs You' pumped up the crowd from the DJ booth. All fell quiet..... the chorus of 'Made In Heaven' could be heard acapella twice run through (an obvious influence of Baker's assistance) before Kylie herself hit the stage for 'Red Blooded Woman'. Dressed in a black and silver top and skirt (little front coverage, down to the ankles at the back). The stage set could be most likened to the 'On A Night Like This' section of 'An Audience With': two staircases covered underneath with red draped curtains. Kylie thanked us for coming as the intro of 'What Do I Have To Do' kicked in....the instrumental break was replaced with a couple of choruses of 'Too Far' (a thank you to her IP fans for sticking with her) before carrying on to the standard version of 'WDIHTD'. Four male dancers stripped to their black briefs joined Kylie on stage for the Fever Tour version of 'The Loco-Motion' (Kylie added a top hat to her black and silver ensemble), a slight remix towards the end of the track made the Prince-esque tribute even sexier. Kylie asked if she could "slow things down a little" as she performed the only album track from 'Body Language'. 'Chocolate' was performed exactly as the 'Money Can't Buy' version with female dancers. A quick costume change into a white blouse (with frilly sleeves at the shoulder) before 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head', to a rapturous applause....followed by her third no.1 on the 21st century, 'Slow' - along with orange light sabres. 'On A Night Like This' was started as a ballad before the second verse kicked in, when the beats kicked in the whole crowd had their hands in the air. 'Love At First Sight' was the encore - again the same version as 'Money Can't Buy', an uplifting goodbye to the crowed...as Jeremy Joseph said a big thank you to the crowd Kylie came back from backstage and said "hey, hang on I think I've forgotten a certain song" - an acappella version of 'Better The Devil You Know' (both verses and three choruses) was her finale to a ram-packed G-A-Y crowd. ''Love to you all..." her last words before the DJ resumed his set.

Kylie Minogue: Disco's Thin White Dame

Aussie dance pop queen talks about Brigitte Bardot, her manufactured character, and the Queer Eye contingent.

by Brian Ives & C. Bottomley

(Capitol Records)
[You will need to go to the VH-! sier linked above to see he two embedded interviw clips. Do it. You'll be glad you did.]

When Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" stormed the charts two years ago, no one could believe she was the same singer who went top 10 in 1988 with a cover of "The Locomotion." If that Kylie was all big teeth and mall hair, this Kylie was a sex kitten whose pout and purr could give you goose bumps - and several other embarrassing physical reactions.

The Australia native had done a lot of growing up since her early success. In the States she was a one-hit-wonder, but in Europe her celebrity had gone far beyond the Aussie soap opera that started her career. She had dated INXS singer Michael Hutchence, discovered the dance-floor in a string of hit singles, gyrated on an electrical bull in ads for Agent Provocateur lingerie, and built impressive followings in both gay and straight communities.

The new Body Language finds her evolving yet again. With its Bardot pose, the cover art emphasizes Continental stylishness. So does the music. With help from Mantronix and Scritti Politti, Kylie goes back to the `80s, panting over the era's disco sounds. The pulsing electro of "Slow" is pure pop, camp without being silly, and damn sure to get you moving.

While other dance queens worry about building "meaningful" careers, Kylie embraces disposability. She admits to being as prefab as any pop idol. Maybe that's why she's even been adopted by the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy gang. The 35-year-old singer giggled as she told VH1 about her unexpected American success, changing images, and how she's had her share of tragedy.

VH1: Your last album, Fever, was quite successful in America. Were you surprised?

Kylie Minogue: Completely surprised! "Can't Get You Out of My Head" had been No. 1 in I don't know how many countries, but I still wasn't signed to an American record company. So America was not on the schedule. It was where I came and took a holiday! And Fever changed all of that!

VH1: Before I heard the new album's music, I saw the posters. You've got a very Brigitte Bardot look these days.

KM: Yeah. We shot it on location in the South of France, so it was [easy to] channel the spirit of Bardot. She's a great iconic reference, particularly that period where she was working with [singer/songwriter] Serge Gainsbourg. I thought it was the perfect mix of coquette, kitten and rock `n' roll.

VH1: Do you feel the need to change your image from album to album?

KM: It's part need and part something I enjoy. I follow fashion - sometimes more than others, but sometimes I haven't a clue what's going on! I thrive on change and variety, so to have a new look for, not only an album, but every single, is something I enjoy. But there are times when I just wish I could be the same as when I get up in the morning. It'd be nice and easy!

VH1: You've been very open about acknowledging that there's something manufactured about what you do.

KM: If you're part of a record company, I think to a degree it's fair to say that you're a manufactured product. You're a product and you're selling a product. It doesn't mean that you're not talented and that you don't make creative and business decisions about what you will and won't do and where you want to go. Especially in the beginning, doing the soap opera [Neighbours] that I was on. When you work in TV, it's such a group effort, it's not about you. I carry that into this career as well. Ultimately, yes, it's my name and I have to deliver the goods. But it doesn't happen without a team. So I try and work with the best people I can and take from them what I can. Hopefully I enhance what they do as well. [Watch Clip]

VH1: The lyrics on Body Language sound more personal than they might have been a few years ago.

KM: Some of that could be just chance! I wrote lyrics that were intensely personal to me on an album a few years ago. Maybe people know me better now, and therefore, if a songwriter pitches me a song, they might tailor it [to fit me]. I get the lyrics of a tune and interpret them my way. It's a great compliment if you believe them [to be personal]!

VH1: Tell me about the song "Slow." What's it about?

KM: It's a simple song, and yet it stays with you. Lyrically, it's about how time and space have a different meaning when you meet someone [you really like]. I loved the way the song had this push-pull effect; the musical and lyrical combination gives you a sense of that.

VH1: It's like when the guy in Big Fish sees his future wife. Everything slows down except the two of them.

KM: Yeah, it's like some things are really intensified. It could be your breathing or a breeze. It's a tricky one to describe!

VH1: Describe the video for people who haven't seen it.

KM: The video is set in Barcelona at the Olympic Diving site. I lie down for the whole video, which I thought was a very cunning plan. But then I ended up having to sing directly into the camera when the sun was right next it, so tears were streaming down my face! Videos always have a painful moment. It's either too hot or it's too cold or there's always something. That's part of the fun, I guess. [Watch Clip]

VH1: How has the music of the '80s influenced you?

KM: I first got into pop music in '81, I'd say. It was all about Prince, Adam + the Ants, that whole New Romantic period. Prior to that, it was the Jackson 5, Donna Summer, and my dad's records - the Stones and Beatles. The influence we used on Body Language was more mid-`80s, specifically Scritti Politti.

VH1: You actually got Scritti Politti's Green Gartside singing on the album.

KM: I wanted that kind of sound - minimal beats, a little softer on the edges than what we'd done with Fever. To this day I haven't met him! I left a message on his answering machine, saying, "Hi, it's Kylie! I just wanted to say thanks so much! You sound brilliant!"

VH1: You're guesting on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. How do you explain your gay fan-base?

KM: It's always difficult for me to give the definitive answer because I don't have it! My gay audience has been with me from the beginning. The most important thing to me is that it was a very natural coming together. In recent years a lot of record companies market directly towards "the pink pound." But I never did that. They kind of adopted me instead. [Watch Clip]
